Who Doesn’t Like Birds Edition
Wingspan (Board game, PC and consoles)
Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game. You are bird enthusiasts seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). Play birds, gain food, lay eggs, discover more birds, and build your own avian engine.
I started birdwatching during the pandemic, so I had a particular interest in picking this up. However, Wingspan is wildly popular among both gamers and non-gamers alike, and for good reason. The rules are easy to learn but hard to master, the art and game pieces are beautiful, and every game plays out differently. I own both physical and digital versions of the game, so I can play with faraway friends and family. The app boasts effortless setup and cleanup, as well as bonus bird sounds and facts. Whichever version you pick up, you will have a blast!
Side note: Wingspan’s designer, Elizabeth Hargrave (@elizhargrave), lives nearby in Maryland. I recently got to meet her at a local game store and playtest her new board game about domesticating foxes (so much fun). Highly recommend checking out your own local game store and asking if they have prototype playtest events; it’s a great way to meet new people and try new games!
